1965 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu SS 283 L77
This Chevelle was first purchased by Yvonne M. Lacko (born Broguiere) on December 11, 1964 from Ostrom Chevrolet in Montebello, CA. The original Protect-O-Plate address matches the operating address of Broguiere’s Dairy today. It sat in The Brother’s Collection for many years before I purchased it in 2021.
Very few Chevelles left Chevrolet production wearing this unique color for the 1965 model year - some think as low as 1.4%, but that may be even lower for a hardtop with a black interior (most were white). Evening Orchid was designed by Chevrolet interiors designer Blaine Jenkins, and only available for Chevrolet SS cars, the Pontiac GTO, and was famously worn by the Tom Hunter and Roy Mayne 1965 Impala SS 409/427 NASCAR.
During my ownership I replaced the battery, battery cables, starter, and seatbelts. I upgraded the stock suspension to the UMI Stage 1 kit that includes 2” lowering springs, Bilstein shocks, a 1.25” front sway bar, and 1” rear sway bar. I sourced NOS 15x7 GM steelies that would have been used on the larger cars, and original condition COPO caps from the late 60s. The overall goal was to retain the originality of the car (original paint!) while subtley improving the style in a period OEM+ approach.
